Dog Bites

At Okun Law PLLC, we know firsthand that dogs can be the most wonderful companions and best friends.  However as attorneys, we also know that dogs can be extremely dangerous.

Generally speaking, aggressive behavior in dogs is not breed-specific, and even  generally friendly dogs can become aggressive for no apparent reason.  Studies show that approximately 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs each year, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 20% of dog bite victims require medical treatment.

In Maine, dog owners are responsible for the actions of their pets.  However, the specific circumstances surrounding the bite determines whether or not the dog owner will be legally liable to pay for the injured person’s medical treatment and damages. At Okun Law, we are well-versed on the law regarding dog bites and dog attacks, and can help guide you through the process.

If you or a loved one has been a victim of a dog bite, first seek immediate medical treatment, then call us.
